Founded in 2019, Hodari Foundation is a refugee-led nonprofit organisation that is fully committed to promoting the wellbeing of refugees and safeguarding the rights of those from diverse social backgrounds. At Hodari foundation, we operate on the premise that all individuals have the potential to thrive and thus deserve equal access to opportunities regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, social or economic background. To materialise this noble cause, we conduct several skilling programs and activities with a mission to promote education and awareness, advocacy, and community engagement among refugees and the host communities.
Hodari Foundation was founded by Janvier Hafasha, a refugee who was only 21 at the time he fled the
Democratic Republic of Congo when a militia group invaded his village, brutally murdering his mother in his presence. To-date, Janvier has no idea where the rest of his family members could be now. Having been traumatized to this level, Janvier embarked on a multi-stakeholder approach by closely working with the local leaders in the host communities, the team at Hodari Foundation and other nonprofit organizations, to support his fellow refugees undergoing serious life challenges especially the unprivileged ones: vulnerable children such as disabled children, Orphans, unaccompanied minors, albinos, among others aged 0 to 17 , children-mothers, SBGV survivors and elders aged 70 years and above.
The Foundation derives its name from a Swahili word & quot; hodari & quote ; which loosely translates to being strong/have courage & quote.
Indeed Janvier and the Foundation & 39s team have been at the forefront of restoring hope among refugees through several rehabilitation and skilling programmes such as women 39s crafts-making, performing arts, sustainable agriculture, feeding, among others.
Hodari Foundation is planning to have an Early Childhood Development (ECD/nursery) school so that children can enroll for quality and affordable education at the earliest age possible.
Our ultimate goal is to create positive social change and build a world where every person can live with dignity,respect, and opportunities to reach their full potential.
