Refugee-Led Organisations and Partners Advance Policy Dialogue at Regional Event in Kyegegwa

On August 20, 2025, the Katente Resort in Kyegegwa hosted a landmark Regional Event that brought together key stakeholders committed to strengthening refugee participation and advancing inclusive policy reforms. The gathering convened Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) under KRLON–Kyaka II Refugee-led Organizations Network, leaders of Faith-Based Organisations, officials from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) up to district level, and representatives from UNHCR.

At the center of the event, KRLON presented a position paper that opened up constructive conversations on Uganda’s Refugee Act (2006) and national policy frameworks under the theme:

“Bridging Gaps, Advancing Policy Dialogue, Legal Empowerment, and Securing Documentation for Refugees.”

Key Highlights

  • Policy and Legal Focus: Discussions emphasized the urgent need to strengthen refugee participation in policy spaces, expand legal empowerment initiatives, and improve documentation processes to ensure accountability and inclusive growth.
  • Commitment from Authorities: In his closing remarks, the Settlement Commandant of Kyaka II Refugee Settlement reaffirmed continued collaboration with refugee-led platforms, promising sustained guidance and partnership to amplify refugee voices.
  • Momentum Building: This event builds on the Stakeholders Engagement held on August 15, 2025, at Peace Winds Hall–Bukere, where RLO leaders, faith-based actors, and partners highlighted gaps in the Refugees Act (2006) and inspired refugees to recognize their power in influencing meaningful policy change.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

As KRLON and partners, we remain steadfast in our mission to:
✅ Build legal awareness within refugee and host communities
✅ Strengthen advocacy capacity of RLOs and grassroots actors
