ABOUT US
Queen Elizabeth Medical Foundation (QEMF) is Community Based Organization that has been in existence since 2018 with the mission to help the needy by adopting practical ways to root out poverty from the world through provision of health, education and livelihood services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). QEMF emphasizes more on the HIV infected and affected populations in communities near Queen Elizabeth National Park in western part of Uganda and Kyaka II Refugee Settlement with the aim of extending its services to the whole country and internationally. We have experience in supporting vulnerable children and adolescent, who do not go to school due lack of supporting in raising scholastic materials and necessary dues at school. It has been observed that such categories fall victims of circumstances like sexual harassment, food denial, child labor and their health is deprived. These hinder them to achieve their career potentials.
QEMF’s projects generate support from key stakeholders/donors to champion mechanism to end SGBV, Wildlife protection, child marriage and teenage pregnancies, ensure safe delivery of age-appropriate Reproductive health education. QEMF offers Child education and protection, livelihood skilling and health promotion to orphans, vulnerable children, women and youth both in school and out of schools through empowering them with SRH information, integration of education and training and implementing a systematic behavior change communication campaign to transform attitudes of target community on wildlife crime and eradicate gender based violence and empower affected families, women and youths to know there is hope and recourse to the violence.
ACTIVITIES
- HEALTH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS: QEMF conduct workshops to educate refugees about basic hygiene, sanitation, disease prevention, and family planning.
- DISEASE PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS: QEMF organize campaigns to prevent the spread of diseases like malaria, cholera, and HIV/AIDS through awareness programs and distribution of preventive materials and timely community- facility referral of patients for better management.
- IMMUNIZATION DRIVES: QEMF facilitate community immunization awareness programs, ensuring that all refugees, especially children, receive necessary vaccinations. QEMF supports the lead health partner in conducting comobilizations for immunization outreaches.
- MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES: QEMF provide community based prenatal and postnatal care for pregnant women, including counseling, health check-ups, and access to maternal supplements.
- NUTRITION SUPPORT: QEMF provide nutritional education, especially targeting malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women.
- PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT: QEMF offer counseling and support services for refugees dealing with trauma, loss, and mental health issues due to conflict or displacement.
- HEALTH SCREENING CAMPS: QEMF conducts Regular house to house health check-up camps to identify and address health issues promptly, including non-communicable diseases and chronic conditions.
- SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES: QEMF provide access to contraceptives, family planning advice, and reproductive health services, including STI prevention and management.
- REFERRAL SERVICES: QEMF help refugees access medical facilities outside the settlement for specialized care and treatment.
- COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION: QEMF engage with the community to raise awareness, involve them in health-related decision-making, and encourage active participation in health programs.
- TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING: QEMF conduct training sessions for community health workers, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to address health issues effectively.
CHALLENGES
- LIMITED FUNDING: Queen Elizabeth Medical Foundationoperate on limited budgets, making it challenging to sustain programs, hire skilled staff, and invest in necessary resources and infrastructure.
- RESOURCE CONSTRAINTS: Queen Elizabeth Medical Foundationhas Limited access to resources, such as office space, computers, internet connectivity, and transportation, can hinder the effective functioning of CBOs.
NEEDS
- Seek flexible funding to enables QEMF allocate resources where they are needed most, addressing immediate needs and allows for better planning and sustained program implementation.
- Request capacity-building grants for staff Village Health Team (VHT) training and development to enhance the organization’s efficiency and impact in the community.
- Request in-kind donations i.e. provide office supplies, computers, and other essential resources in-kind, reducing operational costs.
- Seeking for Grants for building youth friendly spaces and community centers to provide a stable community base for youth friendly services.
- Request funding for community outreach programs workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote active community participation and engagement in health services.
Grant to support back to school programs for the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) living with HIV, pregnant Adolescents and young women, survivors of GBV.
